After being banned from taking his school-leaving exams in the GDR, he trained as a building tradesman and served in the NVA,
Studied civil engineering (Potsdam) and Master's degree in water and environment (Hanover).
At the FHP since founding the Department of Civil Engineering in 1992.
(Co-)founder of the Casino student club in 1995.
