Webinar: Medien an den R?ndern – Stock Building Day 1
In times of growing political unrest, libraries are increasingly confronted with difficult decisions regarding their positioning. A central issue is collection management: How should controversial works be dealt with? What criteria provide guidance in the decision-making process? And: Should the library position itself – and if so, to what extent?
On the 25th of February 2026, the Brandenburg Specialist Unit for Archives and Public Libraries in Brandenburg hosted the first part of the event series "Medien an den R?ndern – Bestandsaufbau" for Brandenburg's public libraries.
Gabriele Bosch, Senior librarian of the Bundeswehr, and Tobias Wei?, Head of the Janusz Korczak Library in Pankow, spoke about the term "censorship" and its meaning in the library context. They spoke about the factors that are relevant for a purchase decision and possible ways of dealing with criticism by users. They also taught about the importance of library ethics and the importance of a democratic mission statement for library work.
The theoretical basis will be supplemented by a practical workshop on the 18th of March 2026.
We would like to thank the speakers for their great and informative input and the participants for their high level of participation!
